about

This was recorded with Jeremy P Martin on the guitar and doing the funky bass thing, and both of us on the hand claps. The song asks the perennial question about what makes a woman and what makes a man, in a good way. (I like to think my songs are like sitcoms in that things work out well in the final wrap up). We recorded the drums in a session at Box Hill Senior Citizens Club in May 2011 and the vocals, keyboards, guitars and claps in Jeremy's studio in Brunswick.

lyrics

The Heart of It
(Bruce Pumpa)

I’m gonna give myself a good talking to
Try to get to the essence of me and you
Someday I might start to understand
What makes a woman and what makes a man

Chorus
I'm getting to the heart of it
Going right back to the start of it
Going through every part of it
Trying to get to the heart of it

I’m gonna get myself together
I’m still some way away from my tether
While I’ve still got my youth
I’ll keep searching hard to find out the truth

Chorus

I know that things can be so good
But sometimes the message get misunderstood
Try to see the other point of view
If we don’t see eye to eye, we still know our love is true

Chorus
(We’re)

(Piano Solo}

I’m always happy to see you
It makes my day complete
And from the moment I met you
You knocked me off of my feet

Chorus

At the heart of the matter on matters of our hearts
The total’s better than the sum of the parts
At the heart of the matter’s just me and you
You’re all I need to see me through

Chorus X2
